J'LYNN LEDESMA BRINGS HOME THE GOLD FROM K.U. RELAYS!
Senior J'lynn Ledesma tied for first in the high jump at 5' 5" and in a subsequent tie-break
jump, J'Lynn cleared 5' 7" (1.70m) and the other jumper from Olathe-East (6-A state 
champion) missed. There were 34 girls in the event. The 3rd place finisher was the state
champion from Missouri (Plattsmouth) and the 4th place finisher was the state champion
from Nebraska (Center).  The last Wellington athlete to bring home the gold was in 1973
and it was Terry Glenn in the 2 mile run.

The Wellington Middle School boys tennis team participated in the Ark City Invitational yesterday.  There were 15 teams competing from Kansas and Oklahoma.  The top 6 players from Wellington competed in pool and bracket play, with the top 4 in each division earning a medal.  Although facing tough competition, the #1 doubles team of Nick Becker and Brian Peck went 5-1 to earn a 3rd place medal.  Other players competing, but not medaling were:  #2 doubles:  Ethan Carroll and Anthony Arellano 2-2; #1 singles:  Matt Hughes 0-3; #2 singles:  Baxter Defore 1-2.  Congratulations on a fine tournament.

The Wellington Middle School girls tennis team competed in the Pioneer League Tournament at Ark City on Tuesday.  The Lady Knights defeated seven other teams to bring home the championship trophy.  Wellington finished on top with 132 team points, while their next closest competitor,  Andover Central, had 90.  "These girls have had a common goal of winning league since day one of practice.  It is great to see their hard work all season pay off for them today."  Individual winners are as follows:  1st place:  Olivia Sneed - #1 Singles, Kailey Jenkins/Ashley Collins - #1 Doubles, Savannah Cornejo/Ciarra Myers - #2 Doubles, Shanlyn Hefley/Megan Campbell - #3 Doubles, Hannah Hillebrand/Jaden DeJarnett - #4 Doubles; 2nd place:  Kelsey Whaley - #2 Singles, Erica Linnebur - #3 Singles and 4th place:  Kaitlyn Utt - #4 Singles.  Fantastic finish to a great season Lady Knights!!

came up victorious defeating Ark City by a team score of 18-6. "The girls played their best match of the
season today. Their never-give-up attitude was impressive", Coach Driskell stated.
