Nearly a dozen schools were on hand Tuesday at the Belle Plaine HS Track Invitational that got underway at their football field facility just north of the school. The wind and cooler temps made it a bit un-springlike, but could have always been worse - like Pratt. :)

Congratulations to our Crusaders! Our girls finished 3rd behind Rose Hill and Garden Plain. Our boys finished 4th behind Wichita Trinity, Rose Hill and Garden Plain. When you combine the girls and boys scores, Wellington finished in 3rd out of the 11 teams present. A few highlights for you: Anna Cullens finished first in the 400M Dash, our girls 4x100M Relay Team, finished a strong 2nd (just .60 sec.) behind Rose Hill. Running for WHS in that race were Ali Zeka, Whitney Zeka, Sadie Glover and Kami Reichenberger. Sadie Glover finished 2nd in the Long Jump, out of 18 participants, Ali Zeka 3rd, right behind Sadie. Dustyn Schettler finished first in the Boys Long Jump out of 18 participants. Schettler, also had the best qualifying time out of 24 participants in the 100M Dash, but pulled a muscle in his upper leg area and ended up finishing 7th in the Finals. Schettler and Montel Tate went 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the 200M Dash preliminaries. In the finals, Montel placed 2nd. Out of 19 participants in the 400M Boys Dash, Chilson Ybarra finished a strong 6th, with Dylan Dickinson, right behind in 8th.Camden Parkey finished 2nd in the 3200M Run, just a 1 1/2 secs out of first. The Boys 4x100M Relay Team finished a strong 2nd behind Trinity's squad. Less than a second behind the first place finishers, congrat to Dylan Dickinson, Morice Ayers, Dustyn Schettler, and Montel Tate! Again - check out the LINK for all the results - CONGRATS BIG RED!!

These are not official numbers but the first track meet of at Clearwater HS each year is always unpredictable weather-wise. Spring hasn't quite taken hold and usually you prepare for the worse. There have been some unbelievably nice events weather-wise, but often, it has been like Friday or even worse. So, kudos to the athletes, coaches, fans, and WHS Yearbook students that braved the elements!

STATE 4A TRACK @ WSU!

A big day Friday for WHS TRACK! Senior Chris Kop (DISCUS) and Sophomore Taylor Meyer (JAVELIN) made their marks at the 2017 STATE 4A Track Meet (State 1A-6A Meet @ W.S.U.) Chris finished 4th in the DISCUS and medaled! Taylor finished 5th in the JAVELIN and medaled! Additionally, Taylor broke her own record from just 8 days ago ( when she broke a 29 yr. old record) by 4 feet at the 4A Regional in Winfield. (122.10) Her 128.02 ft throw today at STATE broke her 8 day old record by nearly 6 feet!!! Awesome. Congratulations to TWO FINE CRUSADERS - way to represent - we are proud of you both!!

Senior Chris Kop qualified for STATE 4A Meet in Boys Discus, Sophomore Taylor Meyer for Girls Javelin (Taylor's throw of 122' surpassed 1988's Sarah Horn's record at WHS by 4 feet! Awesome!)



Wellington High School hosted their annual TRACK MEET on Friday but at a different location due to TRACK issues here (that are being addressed)...Belle Plaine allowed the Crusaders and Staff to use their facility - a big thank you to them. The results are in, several first place finishes in the 8 team participation competition, several medalists in several events. GREAT JOB CRUSADERS! Next action this FRIDAY @ Chaparral!

The WHS TRACK TEAM had their opening season action Friday at the Clearwater HS Participation Meet. It was a "bit" chilly and windy but not too bad - our athletes performed well - the Crusaders earned "7" 1st place finishes and several 2nd place - (Seniors Matthew Mason (3) and Chris Kop (2) accounted for "5" of the "7" GOLDS) - enjoy the pics!
