Is it just me or did it really only take about 3 1/2 days for the last 4 months to pass by? Seems like the football scrimmage was just a few days ago and here we are now talking about the end of the 2017 portion of the 2017-2018 WINTER SPORTS SEASON at both WMS and WHS! Whew...life is short! Better get this article written quickly before the PROM WALK-IN begins!

The Crusader and Lady Crusader basketball squads wrapped up their 2017 calendar schedule Friday evening at Rose Hill, their 2nd league game this week. Not a good night overall, winning just 1 of 5 games played. The JV Ladies came out on top 58-49 and are now 2-0 in league play. Here's the overall results from ROCKET country:

After coming out on top overall in double-dual action at home Thursday evening vs Rose Hill and Mulvane, the Varsity Wrestlers headed to Hillsboro Friday to participate in the Marion County Winter Duals with 16 teams competing at two locations (Hillsboro and Marion). Other teams in the tournament included Clearwater, Royal Valley, Fredonia, Hillsboro, Burllington, Riley County, Wabaunsee, Clay Center, Marion, Rock Creek, West Elk, Republic County, Douglass, Minneapolis and Bluestem. At the end of the day, the Crusadrs went 34-19 in individual matches and ended up 8th as a team, going 2-1 in pool play and 0-2 in bracket play. Here is the skinny on the whole event:

The JV squad will wrap up their pre-holiday schedule today (Saturday, Dec. 16th) at the annual Rose Hill JV Tournament that gets underway at 8:30AM. The Varsity squad is done for the calendar year - their next action will be Friday, Jan. 5th at Rossville vs the host and Junction City. The WMS 7/8 grade Knights and Lady Knights were in action Thursday evening vs Clearwater. The BOYS were on the road, the GIRLS hosted - this is their next to last set of games before the Holiday Break. The BOYS will host El Dorado on Monday, the GIRLS will travel. Congratulations to the Lady Knights who swept Clearwater - not the first time this season that has happened for the young Wellington girls.

So there you have it, the latest and greatest with just a little more to go before Santa pays his annual visit. On a side note,congratulations to this school year's DUKE CANDIDATES - they were announced on FRIDAY as well - Hayden Baker, James Hinman, Logan Jones, Ian King and Austin Sears! Coronation is slated for Friday, January 12th during halftime of the boys varsity game. After the holidays, watch for the traditional FORMAL PICS of the candidates and their escorts, Mekenna Adams, Abby Lowe, Jenna Rausch, Lexi Saffell (Duchess) and Jill Wiley.
