KSHSAA BOY'S STATE 4A CHAMPIONSHIP
02.28-29.2020

A week that didn't start off as promising in some cases, due to illness, ended with a lot of smiles and a lot of medals! At the Tony's Pizza Event Center in Salina on Friday and Saturday, the 2020 State 4A Wrestling Tournament was held and "4" Wellington Crusaders qualified at last weekend's 4A REGIONAL held @ Wellington HS to take part!

"2" of those 4 would medal, "1" for the first time and "1" for the second time...Congrats to Senior 195 lb Kanden Young who went 4-1, placing 3rd and securing his first STATE MEDAL after 2 earlier appearances at STATE in 2019 and 2017.  Also, Junior 220 lb Kenny Ferhman who went 5-1. After a 2nd round loss, Kenny battled his way back on the backside of the bracket with 4 straight victories to secure the 3rd place finish and 2nd State medal of his career.

Kanden set a new WHS season record and WHS career record for wins, 42 and 112 respectively... beating E.K. Frank's 1989 career record and Josh Clark's 2002 season record. Kanden was also REGIONAL 4A CHAMPION. Also holds WHS career record for # of pins - 78. Kanden ended his senior season at 44-2. His 2 losses were to the eventual 5A champion and the 4A champion. Incredibly awesome Mr. Young!
