Golfers take 4th at State
WHS Girls Golf made their first team visit in program history to the 4A State Tournament on October 17-18. After dominating many of the regular season tournaments and taking 1st at League and Regionals for a total of 7 tournament wins on the season, the team traveled to Emporia for the final show. Coach Ginter reports:
Our ladies were very excited and nervous about state as it was the first time in our program's history that we had qualified as a team.
The morning started rough with very low temperatures but we had high spirits. After a few holes we quickly realized that our first day was not going to be as expected. After day one, the Lady Crusaders finished in fourth place. They were behind 16 strokes to Winfield and 6 strokes to Topeka-Hayden. Kasiah Richmond finished in the top 10. The next day temperatures were freezing but the Lady Crusaders stayed tough and played significantly better. They finished in 4th, 1 stroke behind Topeka-Hayden and 5 strokes from being the [State Runners-Up]. It was a great experience for our girls and such a successful season; we could not be more proud of the girls. They are great people and amazing teammates and friends.
In addition to a 4th place team finish, we also have TWO INDIVIDUAL MEDALISTS this year: senior Kasiah Richmond (12th) and Claire Ginter (16th). Furthermore, Way to go, Kasiah and Claire! Claire joins the ranks of Kasiah and big sister Payton Ginter as individual state medalists in the program's history. All-State selections included Taryn Viramontes, honorable mention; Kasiah Richmond, second team; and Claire Ginter, first team!
Congrats to the Wellington Lady Crusader Golf Team on their 4th Place finish and on a groundbreaking season! You've got so much to be proud of!!
