The 2017 IRONDUKES squad got their first taste of defeat Friday, on the road at Andale, losing 38-0. The Indians, larger, quicker, deeper and all the other 'ers, controlled the game, sputtering a little in the 2nd qtr due to some good defense by our boys in red. The last part of the 2nd qtr this season has been a productive time for the Crusaders. Friday at Andale, the defense shined as the half approached.
Both the WMS and WHS Cross Country squads were in action at the Oxford Invitational which is always held in Winfield at the Kansas Veterans Home located due north of both the Winfield middle and high schools on Viking Blvd. It was HOT and it was WINDY...here are the individual WMS & WHS results:
History was reenacted this past week along the Chisholm Trail and will culminate later this week up near Wichita, to commemorate it's origins some 150 years ago. A cattle drive that began in Oklahoma about a week ago spent Tuesday night near Wellington Lake and pulled out of there late Wednesday morning and headed up the Chisholm Trail towards Mayfield.
A large crowd was on hand Tuesday evening at WHS for the FALL CHOIR PROGRAM featuring choirs from both WMS and WHS. All performed well, especially considering school has been in session for such a short time. Jessica Coldwell is the choral director for USD 353 and she puts on some very nice concerts, this one included. Here was what the music menu for the evening looked like:
