The big game of the week thus far would have to be the Varsity boys basketball game Tuesday evening at WHS vs Andale. There were no GIRLS GAMES at WHS Tuesday, nor will there be this Friday when the boys alone, will host Rose Hill. Health guidelines and restrictions have placed the girls on the outside of the court boundary lines for this week. Hopefully, they can resume next Tuesday, when WHS travels to Winfield for basketball action there. Tuesday will be the last game of the 2020 portion of the 2020-2021 season.

Andale's visit on Tuesday, netted them 2 of the 3 "W's" available to them, not the big one though!

Our varsity boys, for the first time in the last 3,959 days, defeated the Andale varsity boys, 62-59. It was a great game, a back and forth game, and everyone stepped up and did their parts. 4 of the 5 scorers for Wellington were in double-digits. Additionally, Tanner Meyer pulled a double-double, with 10 rebounds.

Tanner Meyer 23
Banks Hinshaw 12
Jack Wright 11
Berkeley Wright 10
Cope Henry 6

The last win against Andale, came on Feb. 12, 2010 – the DUKES came out on top 55-47 behind the great shooting of Mr. Jordan Edwards who pumped in 21 points to lead that effort almost 11 years ago. The Coach then, many of you will remember, was Brian Buchanan and of course Andale’s coach then and now, his brother Jeff. Always makes for a fun competition…nice to win this one! GO BIG RED!!

This was a great victory for the Crusaders and Coach Newman – they move to 3-2 and will host Rose Hill this Friday. All “3” games, like on Tuesday, will be livestreamed.

In other action, the JV boys battled hard and lost a heart-breaker, here are all the other scores and individual scoring from WHS Tuesday evening:
