VARSITY TENNIS RESULTS

Wellington hosted a five-team Round Robin meet yesterday afternoon and took FIRST OVERALL!

Freshman Logan Robinson played in the #1 Singles slot for this meet, and ended up in a 3-way tie going 2-2 on the day, but finished 2nd overall after tiebreaker criteria was considered.  Head Coach Brian Aufdengarten said, "Logan never gave up and fought hard, she will get better each day.  Our matches are longer than middle school and she will adjust, she has some solid strokes and will be fun to watch."

Playing #2 Singles was senior Crystal Ramirez who had a strong showing going 3-0 on the day, good for 1st place.  Crystal went to a tiebreak in her very first match of the day against Kingman and had some solid performances in her other two matches.  

Playing #1 Doubles was Ashlyn Gerten & Kadynce Aufdengarten who were sluggish starting off the day.   We didn't have much energy until we met up with Sterling in our third match.  It was a back and forth match but the Wellington duo held on to win a tiebreak over Sterling 7-6(7-2).  Sterling is very solid and finished 4th at state last season upsetting a Wichita Collegiate team at state last year early in the tournament.  They were undefeated coming in and only had 4 losses last year going into state.  Gerten & Aufdengarten finished 4-0 for 1st place.

The #2 Doubles team of Heidi Gulick & Kyra Cornejo played in their second straight varsity meet and also went 4-0 good for 1st place.  The Wellington pair beat Winfield 7-2, Chaparral 7-5, Sterling 7-4, and Kingman 7-4.  They had some longer matches but did very well and I was very pleased.
