Wichita Collegiate trounces the Crusaders 56-20

It was a wet and rainy evening last Friday when the Crusaders were on the road again to take on the Wichita Collegiate Spartans. The weather did not hinder the Spartans one bit as they racked up 470 yards of offense on their way to a 56-20 win.

Both teams traded touchdowns in a back and forth game in the beginning before Collegiate would take the lead 35-20 going into halftime. The second half was not kind to the Crusaders where they struggled both offensively and defensively and were outscored 21-0 to end the game 56-20.

The Spartan pass defense was relentless as Dusty Bannister completed only 7/21 passes for 144 yards and an interception, but he was able to find Brody Weir for a 14 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Nick Giefer led the offense on the ground with 108 yards and 2 touchdowns on 23 carries. Carter Burnett also made big plays catching 3 passes for 109 yards.

The Crusaders will move on from this game and look forward to playing at home against the Labette County Grizzlies at home on September 22nd.
