The WHS Girls Wrestling team made program history this year, qualifying eight wrestlers to the state tournament, doubling the previous school record for girls state qualifiers.

London Pourner, Aubri Rohrer, Caroline Mott, Maddie Fullerton, Mikayla Ybarra, Kaylee Horinek, Maddy LeValley, and Natalie Burnett made up this trailblazing group who wrapped up the season this weekend at the highest level of competition.

I want to commend all these ladies (and coaches McComb, Kirkpatrick, and Hamilton!) on all their accomplishments this season! Can’t wait to see what next year has in store! I also want to shout-out Georgia Shinliver, who was one win shy of qualifying for State as a freshman wrestler: Georgia attended the state tournament for the duration and was as supportive a teammate as you could ever hope to have! She was ready through it all the hype up (or pick up) her teammates when they needed it!

Maddie Fullerton

Maddie Fullerton went 3-2 at the KSHSAA 4A State Wrestling Tournament in Salina this weekend to take 6th Place! Maddie won today in the “blood round” by pinning Clay Center’s Evellyn Farley, guaranteeing her a medal. She then lost by injury default to her next opponent (aggravating a shoulder injury from Regionals two weekends prior), and medically forfeit her last match.

Maddie Fullerton is a two-time State Qualifier, a newly-minted State Medalist, and finishes her sophomore season with a formidable record of 31-5!

Kaylee and Mitch McComb hug

Kaylee went 3-2 at the KSHSAA 4A State Wrestling Tournament to take 4th Place! Kaylee won her first two matches on Day 1 to guarantee her a top 6 finish, going 2-1 on the day. On the second day of the tourney, she won by fall over Carly McAtee of Girard to compete in the 3rd place match against Bishop Miege’s Molly Benes. Kaylee lost by tech fall, but was all smiles as she shook hands with her opponent as she ended her high school career a STATE MEDALIST!

Kaylee Horinek is a two-time State Qualifier (she qualified her sophomore year, as well), a first time State Medalist, and she ends her senior season with a record of 21-12 and a career record of 83-49.

Thanks for your contributions to the WHS Girls Wrestling program! We are proud of you!
