Five Nebraska HUSKERS earn 2018 Academic All-Big Ten Honors - Wellington's Grace Mitchell was one of the five!

The BIG-10 Conference announced their winter honor teams on Wednesday and "5" Nebraska Huskers earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors!

Seniors Jasmine Cincore and Emily Wood both collected their third academic All-Big Ten awards of their careers, while junior Maddie Simon claimed her second honor. Senior transfer Janay Morton and sophomore Grace Mitchell both earned their first academic All-Big Ten awards as Huskers.

Mitchell, a sophomore nutrition, exercise and health science major from Wellington, joined Morton as a first-time academic All-Big Ten recipient. A three-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, Mitchell played in 29 games with two starts for the 21-11 Huskers, who advanced to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

To be eligible for academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team and enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months while carrying a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. Overall, the Big Ten recognized 872 academic all-conference selections across all of it's winter sports, including 68 women's basketball student-athletes across its 14 institutions.

Grace was a 2016 WHS graduate, who excelled on and off the basketball court, helping lead her team to a 24-1 season, with a 3rd place finish at the State 4A Girls Basketball Tournament in Salina. She holds the single season scoring record at WHS (530 pts) and was selected MVP and 1st Team honors in AVCTL DIV IV. Grace is the daughter of Jud Mitchell and Cathy Mitchell.

Congratulations Grace - awesome all the way around!
