Wellington Tennis competed at League held in El Dorado yesterday, October 3, and Coach Aufty reports that the team "had an outstanding day"!  Their goal was to finish in the Top 5 as a team, as "we are in the toughest 4A league in the state with Division III and IV combined."  The team exceeded their goal.  Aufdengarten reports, " We finished 3rd as a team right behind McPherson.  Wichita Collegiate won their 12th team title out of 13 years in the league."

Coach's report continues:

Both doubles teams led the way with top finishes where we mixed our lineup up a bit.

#1 Doubles was Jensen Lynnes and Ashlyn Gerten who got the #4 seed and upset the #1-seeded McPherson in the 2nd round to make the finals.  That match was huge and a dominant win 6-0, 6-1, over a team that is projected [as] the #1 seed going into State.  [Lynnes and Gerten] lost the finals match to Wichita Collegiate.

[For] #2 Doubles Kadynce Aufdengarten paired up with singles player Kami Reichenberger and received the #1 seed.  The pair won their first two matches before falling to Wichita Collegiate in the finals.

Lyric Cornejo filled the #2 singles slot and received the #3 seed.  She finished right in that spot for the second straight year.  That's two years in a row Lyric has stepped up and played singles and medaled both years.

Filling the #1 singles slot was Logan Robinson who outplayed her seed by 1, finishing 7th place after receiving the #8 seed.

A fantastic showing for the team in such a tough league with consistently strong competition.  The Lady Crusaders will move on to Regionals this Saturday, which Wellington will host in Winfield at the T.H. Vaughan Complex.
