It was a SPLIT at Winfield Tuesday evening, the WELLINGTON CRUSADERS won 3, WINFIELD the same. The Lady Crusaders were back in action following a 3 game hiatus due to health restrictions. Both Varsity squads leave 2020 and enter 2021 with more "W's" than not. Tanner Meyer lit it up for 29, Airalyn Frame for 19. The JV Boys have won 3 of their last 4. Deitrek Gill 21 pts!The "C" Team boys took the Vikings to OT. Landyn Glenn 22 pts! Some good basketball was played, I'm excited for post-break action! Check out the scoring:

Mid-season tournaments are over and all the squads are back together again...well, almost. The WHS Girls program whose numbers were down a bit this year, resulting in no "C" Team, those numbers were down even more Tuesday when about 1/3 of the squad was home ill. Consequently, on the girls side, only the Varsity game was played. (See Girls Post for info about that).
Just in from the Road Runner Classic @ Chaparral HS...the Varsity Boys placed 7th at the tourney this weekend, going 1-2. The boys in red downed SUNRISE ACADEMY 64-26 early this afternoon. Tanner Meyer lit it up with 28 pts.(60 pts total for Tanner in the tourney overall - making the ALL TOURNEY TEAM as a result!), Austin Soles 11, Montel Tate 6, Jack Wright 4, Banks Hinshaw 3, Trace Witham 3, Jax Cornejo 3, Zane Cornejo 2, RJ Clift 2, Cade Fairbanks 2. Nice finish to the 3 day tournament.
The Varsity Crusader Boys shot out to an 11-3 lead on Collegiate Tuesday evening, didn't take the Spartans long to "right" their ship and by 1st quarters' end, Collegiate was up 30-15, at halftime 42-20. The Spartans were high percentage shooters, knocking down "10" 3's to the Crusaders "5", and did so with high accuracy. They had the height advantage as well. Collegiates' platooning system allows a fresh five on the court a greater amount of time, too. A Purdue University scout was on hand, checking out one (or more, I don't know) of the Spartans.
The Clearwater boys went home with "3" W's Friday evening, defeating the WHS V, JV & C Teams to achieve that end. Certainly were not blowouts, and one, very close. The boys in red will rebound. A young bunch overall, nice performances by several - as those individual performances transition into team performances, watch out. There is talent on the court. Many smiles to come.
The Crusaders chalked up 2 wins in 3 games Tuesday evening in their 2020 opener here at HOME vs the Winfield Vikings. Exciting action, especially in the varsity game. The Crusaders, lead by Senior Austin Soles with 21 pts. and Junior Tanner Meyer with 20, were up by a dozen at halftime and somewhat in control. Winfield chipped away at that lead, reducing it to an 8 pt deficit after 3. The Vikings put more oars in the water in the 4th and nearly paddled into a victory.
Returning HOME after road trip games at "3' other venues, over the past 10 days, the Crusader Boys jumped out early on the visiting Mulvane Wildcats in the opening "C" Team game. The young Crusaders never looked back, dominating the action vs the Wildcats, and moved their season record to 3-1. Final score Mulvane 39 Wellington 61.
