WRC Coach Pitch League (6, 7 & 8 yo's) continues at Worden Park - check out some of the action from the first 2 games Tuesday evening. Games postponed from last Thursday (due to rain) are being made up tonight (Weds) at Rock Island Fields!
"Coach Pitch" League got underway Tuesday evening at Worden Park, for both boys and girls. (We'll have pics of the girls later this week!) "Coach Pitch" League is for younger children, 6-8 and introduces them to the game - Coaches are actively involved with the team members in all aspects of the game, from dugout protocol to what's going on field-wise. I like it because EVERYONE has fun! Lots of smiles and lots of great young athletes beginning their treks upward and onward!
Summer "Ball" is up and running at Worden Park! The younger Coach-Pitch Leagues don't begin until June 5th. The 9-10, 11-12 yo boys baseball and the 10U, 12U & 14U girls softball have been playing now, for a week or two.
Wednesday evening (May 23rd), was able to catch some of the action in the openers for the night on Fields #1 and #2. On Field #1, it was 11-12 yo Sumner Communications hosting Caldwell. SUTV is coached by Jimmy Thornton.
The Lady Rockets proved to be too much for the Lady Crusaders Thursday at Worden Park. Errors got the best of Wellington in game 1. In game 2, the Lady Rockets jumped out early and held on. The Wellington girls did blast 6 HOME RUNS. (Rylee Rusk 2, Jacelyn Buck 2, Brooke McCorkle 1 and Gracie Fink 1) Prior to the opener, the 6 Senior and their parents were honored also!
When the opposition has 41 hits and 33 runs in two games, you know the Home Team is in trouble. The Lady Thunderbirds dominated the action Monday night at Worden Park, (as did the wind!), downing the Varsity Lady Crusaders 12-0 (5 innings) and 21-13. Wellington lead 13-10 after 4 in the nightcap but runs and hits continued in the last half of the game for the visitors, Circle put up 11 more runs in innings 5, 6 & 7 for the eventual 8 run victory and sweep.
Perfect evening at Worden Park, all the way around. Sunshine, a light breeze and pleasant temps were Mother Nature's contribution / 23 hits and 22 runs, compliments of the Lady Crusaders. Wellington's bats exploded in the nightcap with multiple singles, 5 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 home run by Jacelyn Buck.
Winning pitcher in game #1 - Brooke McCorkle, in game #2 - Annika DeJarnett. The young ladies are back at .500 now, 5-5 on the season with lots of MO! Great Job!!
A very strong 3rd, 4th and 5th inning for the Lady Crusaders in their season opener Thursday at Worden Park, lead to a 5 inning run-rule victory over the visiting Lady Indians from Andale, final score 14-4. Wellington had 10 hits and 4 errors to Andale's 4 and 2. Brooke McCorkle (1-0) was on the mound throughout, giving up 4 hits, 4 runs, striking out 4 and walking no one.
