Tough start for the Crusaders who move to 0-2 on the young season, falling to Goddard @ Goddard, 0-10 and 4-12 Thursday evening.
In the opener, Wellington fell behind early and couldn't mount a comeback through 6 innings of play. A single by Senior Greg Holcomb in the second inning failed to ignite the boys in red. Goddard's Shope would take the win, pitching 5 innings, allowing 2 hits and 0 runs while striking out 7 and walking 4. Hamilton threw 1 inning in relief.
Over the weekend, the Crusader Baseball Team hosted a group of WHS baseball alums Saturday afternoon. We are sharing pics with you now as I speak. It was a beautiful day at Hibbs-Hooten field and it was fantastic to see the Crusaders out on the field, the first time in almost 2 years because of COVID.
The Youth Baseball Camps concluded today at 9th St. Diamond. Curtailed by the weather on Thursday, Mother Nature said enough of that and gave these young kids and their high school mentors and coaches a chance to "shine" on Friday.
It took 3-4 days to get 'er done but the Varsity Crusader Baseball Squad finally squared off against the Goddard Lions (@ Goddard), after similar attempts (@ Wellington) failed on Tuesday and Thursday due to rain. The 2nd reschedule for today at 4PM worked out, (at least for the first game and the Senior Night ceremonies). I left after that and it was beginning to sprinkle. Final results are not in yet so not sure of the outcome of the nightcap.

It was a SWEEP Monday evening at Hibbs-Hooten Field for the Varsity Crusader Baseball boys who move to 4-4 on the season, after losing 3 of their first 4 games by just 1 run. Gage Cunningham went the distance in Game 1 (Winfield 4 WHS 7) and it was Brayden Higginbotham in the nightcap, wrapping up the evening 2 innings shy of normal, final Winfield 2 WHS 13. Congrats gentlemen - keep it rollin'!!

Bats were a crackin' Monday around Sellers Park...Varsity vs Augusta @ Hibbs-Hooten and JV vs Augusta @ 9th St. Quite a few runners left stranded, nightcap was a battle, so close! Season is young, many more games to come!

It was Home Run Derby and WHS Alumni Baseball Game time Saturday afternoon at Hibbs-Hooten Field. If you like sunshine, and windless air, and 60ish temps, and baseball - you would have liked today's annual fundraiser, pitting our Varsity Boys against former Varsity Boys, i.e. ALUMS - great bunch on hand today - everyone had a great time.
In the end, it was the YOUNGIN's 19 ALUMS 11.
The brooms were a sweepin' at Worden and Hibbs-Hooten Thursday evening, in make-up, non-league action vs El Dorado.

The Crusaders jumped out on the Rose Hill Rockets early Thursday down at Hibbs-Hooten Field, and never looked back. In the opener, Wellington won 6-1. Cade Phelps got the win on the mound and helped his cause with 2 HR's to boot! Almost error free action - just 1 error on the Crusaders. Arlis Troutman & Trey Cary came in to finish what Phelps had started. It was SENIOR NIGHT too - 7 seniors and their parents were honored before the nightcap began!

The Varsity Crusader Baseball Team begin the season with a win and a loss. The Andale Indians were visiting on Thursday afternoon, under cloudy skies (most of the time), cool and windy conditions, but no rain!
The 2018 WHS Baseball Season will commence this coming Monday (Mar. 26th) here at HOME vs El Dorado. Varsity action gets underway at 4:00PM at Hibbs-Hooten Field and JV action at 9th St. Diamond. These TEAM PICS were taken on Wednesday 032118 - GOOD LUCK CRUSADERS!!
UPDATE: Action vs El Dorado HERE, postponed until May 10th due to wet field conditions.
After a rain delay from Monday, the Crusader Baseball boys resumed action in the first of 2 semi-final games to be played Wednesday, before the championship game nightcap (so to speak). Up first Mulvane - a late rally by the Wildcats came up short - WHS 6 MHS 4:

Some fun baseball action on July 28th at Hibbs-Hooten...some recent grads (mostly 2015) and present Crusader varsity players squared off in a pick-up game if you will - 9 innings of Crusader brotherhood and family...these pics speak to that. It was great to see everyone even though they just graduated 2 years ago! (They're always in a hurry to get out of high school and then they can't wait to get back) - that is called "normal" and I love it!! CRUSADERS FOR LIFE!
