It was opening night Thursday, semi-final action for the GIRLS at the 4A Sub-State Basketball Tournament being held at Ark City HS, featuring our Lady Crusaders (#1 seed), Ark City (#2 seed), Winfield (#3 seed) and Coffeyville-Field Kindley (#4 seed).
Mrs. Terri Driskell's 7th Grade Social Studies classes visited the traveling MAGNA CARTA display at the Sumner County Courthouse on Tuesday. The students perused the display and then a group discussion about different aspects of the Magna Carta were discussed including Habeas Corpus, King John and more! The students walked the 3 blocks one-way to the courthouse, spent about 20 minutes at the display and returned to the school. A great day for all of that!
265 lb Hagan Wright, in a "MUST PIN" situation, was the last WMS Wrestler up vs El Dorado Tuesday afternoon, down 39-45. The picture above tells the tale. In 19.2 secs, the score was tied at 45. By virtue of tie-breaker criteria, WMS was declared the winner!
Their good fortune continued in their nightcap vs Winfield...final 51-40. The KNIGHTS now stand at 6-4 in dual action on the season.
The Varsity and JV Girls dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's Monday evening in "make-up" action with the visiting Lady Indians from Clearwater. Make-up games as a result of last week's weather related postponements, went all Wellington's way Monday...the regular season ended on an excellent note across the board! CONGRATS! It was SENIOR NIGHT as well and 40 yr USD 353 employee, teacher, coach, Randy Strothman was honored for his decades of service.
The make-up games Monday evening at WHS with the Clearwater Indians went well for the Varsity and JV Boys! Last time these two Varsity Teams went head to head, the Indians won easily 51-39 (Chaparral Tournament).
