Crusader Football Ends For 2019
Photos by Jaxson Irey-Hurt & Steve
An early turnover by Wellington, lead to "6" for Buhler with only 39 secs. off the clock. Not the start you would want, but WHS buckled down, the defense played tough. So tough, 22:43 ticked off the clock before Buhler could find paydirt again. The Crusaders took the lead late in the 2nd qtr after Senior Zane Cornejo scrambled for 84 yds, leading to a 1 yd TD run by QB Zander Vargas and a "good" PAT by Karsten Gill. Gill went 10/11 on the season in PAT's - kudos to #40. Buhler would soon retake the lead and not relinquish. With :47 left on the 1st half clock, Buhler, on 4th and 20, connected on a 21 yd TD throw and went in at halftime on top 12-7. (2 "2 pt" conversions had failed for the home team).
The 3rd qtr was all defense, going into the 4th, still anybody's game but a Buhler score & PAT, with just 4:06 left on the game clock would seal the deal for the maroon Crusaders...final score 19-7. Buhler advances, the season ends at 2-7 for Wellington. Buhler will host Mulvane in Regional 4A action this coming Friday, Nov. 8th. The Wildcats downed Independence Friday night 47-14 to advance.
