All "4" Lady Crusader Tennis Players have advanced to Monday action at the State 4A Girls Tennis Tournament in Topeka.
Jacelyn Buck and Calli Hatfield, defeated Teufel/DeMeyer of Buhler to secure a spot on Monday. Jacelyn and Calli will need to win two more matches in order to play for 5th/6th place.
Kylie Aufdengarten and Rylee Rusk are in the semi-finals, just two wins away from being State 4A Doubles Champions! Action resumes Monday - GO LADIES GO!!
Week 7 brought another victory to the Wellington Crusader Varsity Football squad. The boys in red road tripped east to Viking Land and returned home a few hours later with a 22 -7 win. The Crusaders were up 14-0 at halftime and soon thereafter, up just by 7. However, a fumble in the red zone by Winfield resulted in a Wellington TD with 2:30 left in the game to go up by 15. Game over. Penalties hurt the Vikings, 95 yards worth...Crusaders ended game with just 20 yds, the fewest this season.

Congratulations to Wellington HS Graduate and now Lady Husker Basketball player at Nebraska - Grace Mitchell, daughter of Jud Mitchell, owner of Sumner Communications here in Wellington, and Cathy Mitchell. Grace was recently named a BIG TEN DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR, a prestigious award bestowed upon BIG TEN student-athletes who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year, in this case 2017-2018.
The WHS Lady Crusader Tennis Squad (Jacelyn Buck, Kylie Aufdengarten, Rylee Rusk, Calli Hatfield and Sophomore Lady Golfer Payton Ginter rec'd a sendoff at WHS Thursday as the former head to Topeka and the latter to Huthinson, for 4A State action, weather permitting. Many students, staff and the Crusader Band fired the crowd up just before departure. The "5" were presented with some gifts and Senior Jacelyn Buck thanked the crowd for their support. Tennis is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Golf for Monday.

Congratulations to WMS 8th Grader Jaxson Irey! Jaxson finished in first place today at the Sumner County Spelling Bee held at WMS. Coming in 2nd was WMS 6th Grader Rachel Ewing! Congrats to both Rachel and Jaxson - WAY TO REPRESENT KNIGHTS!!
For the 2nd year in a row, Sophomore Payton Ginter has qualified for the State 4A Girls Golf Tournament. Last year as a Freshman, Payton competed at State and finished 45th out of 90 golfers, shooting a 105 at the Lake Shawnee Golf Course in Topeka.
