Just in from the Road Runner Classic @ Chaparral HS...the Varsity Boys placed 7th at the tourney this weekend, going 1-2. The boys in red downed SUNRISE ACADEMY 64-26 early this afternoon. Tanner Meyer lit it up with 28 pts.(60 pts total for Tanner in the tourney overall - making the ALL TOURNEY TEAM as a result!), Austin Soles 11, Montel Tate 6, Jack Wright 4, Banks Hinshaw 3, Trace Witham 3, Jax Cornejo 3, Zane Cornejo 2, RJ Clift 2, Cade Fairbanks 2. Nice finish to the 3 day tournament.
Wellington High School's "SPECIAL K BASKETBALL TEAM" hosted Wichita North today in an hour long court battle between two great teams! The visiting squad came out on top 42-35 in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd, cheering for both sides. The band played on, the cheerleaders danced, smiles were plentiful, and it was another great day to be a Crusader, win or lose!
Opening Mid-Season Tournament action Wednesday evening at Chaparral's Roadrunner Classic for the WHS Varsity Boys. The #8 seed Varsity Crusaders took on #1 seed Belle Plaine Dragons. The Crusaders jumped out early but by halftime, trailed by a dozen. The boys in red gained considerable ground in the 3rd qtr and pulled within 3 in the 4th, before the Dragons pulled away for the 14 pt, 70-56 victory. The Varsity boys fall to 3-7 on the season and will play #5 seed Mulvane Friday @ 3PM, the Wildcats lost to #4
The WHS "C" Team Boys road-tripped to Clearwater HS Monday evening, for some tri-action if you will, with host Clearwater and Classical School of Wichita.
In the young Crusaders opener vs Classical, the boys in red came out on top 28-27. Scoring for the Crusaders - Korbin Jones 11, Jaxson Irey-Hurt 9, Keaton Hartman 6, and Carson Nugen 2. Hunter Lough, Rylan Biles and Zac Saffell saw lots of action as well, contributing effectively on both ends of the court.
After the Friday portion of the Halstead Wrestling Invitational was cancelled due to road conditions, it was combined with Saturday's schedule and the 17 team Halstead meet is now in the can. Our Crusaders fared quite well, finishing 3rd in the 17 team field. Senior Brennan Cantrell went 4-0, all PINS over his opponents from Lyons (2), Marion and Cheney.

Austin Harriger and Austin Fink, for the 3rd year in a row, will be heading to the State 4A Debate Tournament in Ft. Scott tomorrow and Saturday. A sendoff was held today at WHS for the pair and their spares, Lizzie Harriger and Philip Starnes. We wish them all the best and appreciate greatly their awesome representation over the years. GO BIG RED!!!
