South Woods Park was the place to be Saturday afternoon if you were cruising about our fine south central Kansas community. "9" teams squared off in the annual "Slate Creek Depot Great Race" with participants from "7" different states according to the race's founder and director Mr. Jack Potucek. The skies were cloudy and for late July, seasonably cool with the thermometer reading 88 as the race began.
Some fun baseball action on July 28th at Hibbs-Hooten...some recent grads (mostly 2015) and present Crusader varsity players squared off in a pick-up game if you will - 9 innings of Crusader brotherhood and family...these pics speak to that. It was great to see everyone even though they just graduated 2 years ago! (They're always in a hurry to get out of high school and then they can't wait to get back) - that is called "normal" and I love it!! CRUSADERS FOR LIFE!
More than 50 young folks were on hand for Day 1 of Zane Aguilar's 2nd Annual Crusader Developmental Camp out at WHS Monday evening...the camp runs through Tuesday evening. Wednesday and Thursday's Camp will feature the WMS Knights!
(State Cal Ripken 9 yo Baseball Tournament in Garden City)...Wellington's 9 yo's fell to 1-1 in tourney pool play Friday evening, final score Holcomb 16 Wellington 1. Earlier in the day in what must have been a slug fest, Wellington downed Council Grove 21-18. Congrats to Maverick Petersen in Friday's nightcap who was named MVP and Conner Nugen who was the WOW Award recipient. In the Council Grove contest, MVP honors went to Reid Walker and the WOW Award recipient was Cole Jesseph!
Wellington's 9 yo Cal Ripken All-Stars have a big trip ahead of them this week! After emerging as the runner-up here @ Worden a couple weeks ago in the 9U District Tournament, the Wellington boys secured a spot at the State Cal Ripken 9U Tournament in Garden City this coming weekend and will represent District 1. District 3 (the district Wellington is actually in) will be represented by the District 3 Tournament Champion Winfield.
