The Lady Crusaders were in sub-state basketball action Saturday afternoon at Clearwater HS. WHS started off strong but as the game progressed, the Lady Indians fought their way back. Airalyn Frame sustained an ankle injury (bad sprain) just before the 1st half ended and didn't return to action. A last second shot by the host, gave Clearwater the 2 pt win (34-32) and the sub-state championship. The season ends at 13-7 for our Ladies.. Tough loss today.

What a great start for our Lady Crusader basketball squad. In opening action Thursday evening at the Mid America Classic at McPherson HS, our girls battled hard and downed Valley Center in OT, 71-67! Ali Zeka and Airalyn Frame lit it up (21 and 17 pts respectively), high scorers for both teams, with 1 exception. Valley Center's Halle Brittain pumped in "7" 3 pointers on 8 attempts, Valley Center as a team made "15" 3 pointers, to set a new MAC record, breaking the old record of "12" 9 years ago.
It was a SPLIT at Winfield Tuesday evening, the WELLINGTON CRUSADERS won 3, WINFIELD the same. The Lady Crusaders were back in action following a 3 game hiatus due to health restrictions. Both Varsity squads leave 2020 and enter 2021 with more "W's" than not. Tanner Meyer lit it up for 29, Airalyn Frame for 19. The JV Boys have won 3 of their last 4. Deitrek Gill 21 pts!The "C" Team boys took the Vikings to OT. Landyn Glenn 22 pts! Some good basketball was played, I'm excited for post-break action! Check out the scoring:

It was an exciting finish for the Varsity Lady Crusaders Friday vs Rose Hill. Wellington relinquished their lead down the stretch and the Lady Rockets knotted it and went ahead by 1 in the waning seconds of the contest. Clutch FT's by Sophomore Ali Zeka, who with 2 late in the game appearances at the charity stripe, sunk 3 of 4 and with 5.5 seconds on the clock, Wellington had a 2 pt margin and hung onto it for the win!

Mid-season tournaments are over and all the squads are back together again...well, almost. The WHS Girls program whose numbers were down a bit this year, resulting in no "C" Team, those numbers were down even more Tuesday when about 1/3 of the squad was home ill. Consequently, on the girls side, only the Varsity game was played.
@ Mid-America Classic in McPherson...the Lady Crusaders ended the 3 day tourney 1-2, finishing 4th out of 8 teams. Congratulations to WHS Sophomore Ali Zeka for making the All-Tourney Team. (Olathe South girl made it also but is not pictured). Way to go Ali!! (courtesy pic)
The Lady Crusaders got off to an awesome start Thursday evening in opening action at the 3 day, 2020 All-America Classic Girls Basketball Tournament @ McPherson HS. Wellington tipped off at 6PM vs Wichita Northwest in a close battle through 3 qtrs. Wellington was up 3 after 3 and sustained the lead and then some, final score Wichita NW 52 Lady Crusaders 58. The win advances Wellington to the 7:30pm slot Friday evening vs tournament host and undefeated on the season McPherson, who won easily over Ulysses 92-38.
The Lady Crusaders SWEPT for the 5th time this season, taking care of business with the visiting Lady Spartans of Collegiate on Tuesday at WHS. Traditionally, the Lady Crusaders have done well against the Lady Spartans, that tradition continues. We don't have a lot of height but compensate for that with good ball handling and speed. The JV continues with the EGG in the loss column, moving to 8-0 after a battle with the visiting Spartans.
The visiting Clearwater Indians found success Friday evening at WHS, winning 4 of the 5 basketball games on slate. A mirror image from Tuesday's action with the visiting Vikings from Winfield. The Crusaders on Tuesday won 4 of 5.
For the 3rd consecutive set of games (@ Rose Hill 12/17 & HERE vs Mulvane 12/20), our Lady Crusaders SWEPT their opponent...the latest, Winfield HERE on 01/07. The Varsity win moves their season record to 4-2, the JV continue to forget the letter "L" exists in the English vernacular and are now 6-0! After the game, Head Coach Eric Adams shared these thoughts:
For the second consecutive set of games in a row, the Lady Crusaders SWEEP their opponent...Tuesday it was Rose Hill @ Rose Hill, Friday evening, it was Mulvane here at HOME! The Varsity win moves them to 3-2 on the season, the Jr Varsity win, their 5th and no losses! Scoring is spread out amongst several girls, truly a group effort by a relatively small group (height-wise and shear numbers-wise). Congratulations to the Lady Crusaders and coaches as they head into the Christmas and New Years break.
Congratulations to both the Varsity and Jr. Varsity Girls basketball squads, both grabbing "W's" on the road Tuesday evening at Rose Hill. The win moves the Varsity to 2-2 on the season, JV remains undefeated at 4-0! Great Job Ladies! Next action - here at HOME Friday vs Mulvane. Action will begin with JV Girls and "C" Team Boys at 4:15PM, followed by JV Boys @ 5:45PM, Varsity Girls @ 6:00Pm and Varsity Boys @ 7:30PM.

It's Mid America Classic time at McPherson Roundhouse and our Lady Crusaders took to the courts Thursday afternoon against the Lady Indians from Manhattan.
The WHS Girls Tennis team has been hard at it all week, this first official week of FALL SPORT PRACTICES across the State. Coaches Brian Aufdengarten and Daphne Adams were putting the girls through their tennis rigors Thursday evening at the Crusader Courts on 9th St. They have a lot of fun at their sport and the coaches account for a lot of that. The numbers are down from last year but some very quality players returning for action this year nonetheless.
